Friends of the WSSNFH help to organize two major events during the year.

The WSSNFH Annual Fishing Derby, sponsored by the WSS Rotary Club, is an opportunity for children through age 14 and senior citizens to experience the joy of fishing and the outdoors.  Formerly held near the anniversary of the hatchery's formation, the Derby is now held in May during the White Sulphur Springs Annual Dandelion Festival.

The Annual Freshwater Folk Festival is a celebration of our nation's fish, wildlife, and natural resources. The theme is in keeping with the main goals of the Friends group, which are to increase public awareness and appreciation of the Hatchery, promote understanding, appreciation, and conservation of treshwater resources, and to promote public use and enjoyment of the Hatchery.

Our goal at every event is to educate the public, create awareness about the environment, and to inspire the next generation of biologists and conservationists.
